BORN OUT OF CRISIS
In 2009, a hunting accident occurred that would forever change the lives of two men. Hurricane Safety System’s co-founders, Terence Goodell and Tim Squires, were forced to reevaluate their favorite pastime when a hunting partner fell nearly fourteen feet in a tragic accident. The fall caused severe internal injuries almost claiming the life of the hunter who now spends his days confined to a wheelchair. Goodell and Squires had seen enough and wanted a better sense of security.
CHALLENGING THE INDUSTRY
Q:When is a hunter most at risk for injury when hunting from an elevated platform??
A: During the transition on and off the hunting platform to the ladder apparatus. Recent statistics show that over 85% of all treestand related accidents occur while entering and exiting the stand. Having transitioned thousands of times and experiencing their own personal close calls and minor injuries, Goodell and Squires set out to develop a product suite specifically adapted to the needs of treestand hunters. As a result, they developed an entry and exit system that provides the safest transition from ground to treestand. These products significantly decrease potential accidents
ENGINEERING FOR THE FUTURE
Conventional methods of entering treestands have been around for decades. The PowerGrab, PowerStep and Gravity Forward climbing sticks are products designed to decrease the possibility of falling. Hurricane will soon be introducing two new products, the “PowerLok” and “PowerHand”. These new products will add more quality arsenal for being safer while elevated.
